[click post title to render viz – this tumblr theme is causing issues]
What’s about the most embarrassing thing that can happen to a guy who considers himself pretty technical? It’s when his boss, his flippin’ BOSS! creates something fun “last night because he was bored”.
THIS is why you want to work at Tableau – folks who love technology and love doing things with it.
Anyway, he wrote a little webapp (which I’m sure will become public at some point) that takes a picture and turns it into a CSV just perfect for Tableau. Proof? Here:
The viz will take a 30-60 seconds to render as it’s running on my old server at home. Or it might just take a second or two because of some new features added to v8 that do session sharing.
Data points? Over 2.3 million marks. Just. Plotted. In. Your. Browser. That’s just cool. Now I have an inferiority complex because of my boss, but that’s another story. Thanks, Scott!
Edit: In some dark future, months and months from now (or tomorrow) you may wonder “Why didn’t that viz just render”? Because it’s hosted on a machine I bring up and down while I perform mad scientist experiments – just try again later 🙂
